Rita's letter to the editor

Star Tribune Letter of the Day
As we see the haunting pictures and read the horrific stories of the famine in East Africa, we feel an enormous need to help.
The Rice Dinner Project is a very effective means of offering aid. You simply eat a meal of only rice and send the money you saved by not eating a regular meal to the charitable organization of your choice.
The Star Tribune is publishing a list of reputable organizations that are taking donations to fight this crisis. The Rice Dinner Project does not impact your budget.
There are no administrative costs. Your donation goes directly to the charity of your choice. For more information, go to ricedinner.org.

Good Shepherd Church lists RDP on its "favorite sites" page
We noticed with great happiness that Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin, has mentioned the Rice Dinner Project on its "favorite sites" page.
Would you consider adding a link to the Rice Dinner Project on the website for your group, club, organization, church, synagogue, mosque, or blog; or on Facebook or Twitter; or on your personal website?
We'll make note of it here if you tell us about it.
Ninety families and growing at Our Savior's Church
Our Savior's Church is up to approximately 90 families who are involved in the Rice Dinner Project, and now we are also trying to get the community folks involved. (Our participants are eating a rice dinner once a month, giving the money they save by not eating a regular meal to the local food shelf, which is desperate for funding. One dollar given to the food shelf allows the food shelf to purchase ten dollars worth of food from surplus inventories and food banks. What a great return on an investment! Thanks for your great idea! ~Becky
Spreading the rice dinner idea in parish, schools
Forwarded your note to my parish church and the head of our committee, who offered this rice dinner project during Lent. I also offered it to the schools in our archdiocese, but won't really know who participated until well after Easter. Thanks. ~Kathryn
Church helps Haiti through Rice Dinner Project
I thought you might like to know that the rice dinner project was used at my church to raise money for the school children in Pignon, Haiti. It was quite successful, but the real thrill was that this past January our work team built the kitchen that will now be used to cook the rice for lunches rather than cooking it over an open fire outside. The stoves and propane were donated for one year. We witnessed the children having lunch every day we were there. Last year there were days when there wasn't any lunch made for them. I think this means we were successful! Thanks again for the idea and support. ~Cindy
Going strong in Cleremont, California
My husband and I are in Claremont, California for the winter (through April), and have been celebrating rice dinner here with my son and his family on the 15th of every month. All the best! ~Margrit
Tour De Revs
Check out our Tour De Revs page. From May 13 through August 20, 2009, three ELCA pastors from the WV-WMD synod will put foot to pedal and seat to saddle and travel over 13,000 miles. The goal of this ride is to assist ELCA in reaching our goal of raising 25 million dollars for ELCA World Hunger. Wow!
Pastors Ron, Fred and Dave are including The Rice Dinner Project in their appeal. We couldn't be more delighted to be a part of this wonderful work.
RDP listed on online advent calendar
Here's a great idea! On Sanne Jul's online advent calendar, the link for December 4, 2008, is ... you guessed it ... the Rice Dinner Project! Thank you for including us there, Sanne.
Now you can join us on Facebook. Thanks so much to Michelle A. for adding this group page to Facebook. What a great idea!
